Meadow Brook Cemetery is on Minshull New Road on the north-western edge of Crewe and is one of the town’s newest places of remembrance. The cemetery was opened in November 2008 by the Mayor of Crewe and Nantwich on land that had previously been agricultural farmland, providing around 5.34 hectares of carefully planned green space intended to serve the community for many decades to come.

The name ‘Meadow Brook’ was chosen through a competition run in the Crewe Chronicle, reflecting a desire to create a setting that felt peaceful, natural and rooted in the surrounding Cheshire landscape. With capacity expected to support burials in the Crewe area for roughly 75 years, the cemetery was designed not merely as a practical facility but as a place of reflection, remembrance and quiet beauty.



Meadow Brook differs from the older cemeteries of Crewe, which are often characterised by Victorian memorials and mature tree-lined avenues. As a modern cemetery, its design emphasises open spaces, gently landscaped grounds and ecological sensitivity. The result is a setting that feels less formal than traditional graveyards and more akin to a tranquil parkland landscape, offering visitors a calm environment in which to remember loved ones. 

Over the years the cemetery has gradually developed its own character as memorials, trees and pathways have matured. Features such as relocated memorials, including a First World War tablet originally from the now-demolished Minshull New Road Methodist Church, connect the site to the wider heritage of the Crewe community, ensuring that even a relatively modern cemetery carries echoes of the past.
